Interview with Jason of Antic
What is your alias? If you find the story interesting, then let us know how you came up with it?
Have you changed handles? If so, give us the reason(s) and your previous nickname(s)!
When and where were you born and where do you live now?
I was born 29.12.72 in Linkoping, SWEDEN and I still live here...
When did you get your first computer and which computers do/did you own? When did you get your C64?
My first computer was a C64 in about 1985. Later on I bought an Amiga. Then I sold the Amiga and bought a PC wich I use now. (P166, 3dfx, 48megz) But ofcourse I still have my C64!
How did you get to know the scene? Who was your first contact (person you knew) on the scene?
I wrote lame letters to "elite" dudes and got no answers :) But I did not give up and after a while I had a lot of good contacts. I think that my first contact with the scene was Zagor/Horizon. I called his BBS all the time and chatted quite a lot with him.
Describe your scene career, including all groups you have been a member of! Keep chronological order please!
I started off in two local gruops. The first one was called "Magic Dreams" and the second one was called "Druid". Later I joined Zyrox for one(!) day and then we started Antic.
Which scene do/did you consider best and why? If you have been only on the C64, then give us the reason(s)!
The C64 scene was the best scene and no scene will ever beat it. That was the days! I really had a good time.
What do you think you gained by being a member of the scene?
Not much, but it was fun.
What do you consider lost, wasted or meaningless during the years you have spent on the scene?
I lost money to the phone-company "Telia". I had some high bills...
What is/are/was/were your main interest(s)/function(s)?
Swapping and a bit of cracking. I was also collecting demos.
What made you start doing graphics/composing/swapping/coding/modem trading organising or whatever you did?
I have always liked to have the hottest stuff on my disks, and what could be better than swapping?
What are/were your greatest successes/fiascos?
I did a couple of fast and small cracks for Antic. But ofcourse Bismarck of Triad lost my cracks and I never got any success in "Gamers Guide"... (Hi Bisse!)
Have you attended parties? Tell us about your favourite conferences? You can even mention some fiascos.
I was on the Horizon parties in 1989 and 1990 (i think). They were GREAT. They should hold a nostalgia party or something because They really could fix bix successful parties!
Is/was there any special feeling in your crew, something more than just being in a group?
We were good friends.
If you are not a C64 scener anymore, when and why did you leave the scene?
I left for the military service in 1991. No time for swapping ment a break for me, and I did not begin any group activities after that.
What were your favourite groups/artists/coders/productions? Why do/did you like their work/these programs?
I liked the Horizon crew, They made some cool demos. I also remember Orc and Hein-Design (or something like that) for very nice graphics. There are too many composers to mention them all but JCH, Drax, Link, Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Markus Schneider and Future Freak were all great.
Give us a brief description on the development of the scene as you experienced it and computer society in general!
The scene has gone bad with much less friendship.
What is your profession? What do you do for a living? Does it have to do anything with computers? Is there anything you do in real-life that is similar to what you have been doing on the scene?
I work at a big store here in Linkoping. I sell CD's, cassettes, computer games, playstation games, and I use computers a lot in my work to change prices and so on.
How did your attitude towards computers change during the years?
I have always liked computers and I can't get enough of them.
What do you like doing in your spare-time when not computing? What is/are your hobby(ies)?
Not much really. Computing is my hobby... Fishing is nice though.
Are there moments when you feel nostalgic thinking back to the past years of the scene? If so what do you do when it happens?
I often listen to C64 music with Sidplay on the PC, and then I get very nostalgic. Sometimes I look at old demos with the emulator CCS64.
What are your plans for the near/far future?
Don't have much plans. Win some money would be great :)
What is your goal in life? What would you like to achieve?
Don't know yet...
