Interview with (Oyvind Antonsen) The MeatBall of Triad
What is your alias? If you find the story interesting, then let us know how you came up with it?
My alias is and has always been The MeatBall! I can't exactly recall how it became that, but it was me and a friend called Skate Or Die who where coding a demo and I needed a nick, and TMB was chosen!
Have you changed handles? If so, give us the reason(s) and your previous nickname(s)!
I have never changed my handle!
When and where were you born and where do you live now?
I was born on 15.11.1973 in Stavanger, Norway. In '78 I moved to a place called Bomlo, just south of Bergen, and now (Oct. 97) I live on Stord, the island next to Bomlo.
When did you get your first computer and which computers do/did you own? When did you get your C64?
My first computer was a Z80-based one, a Memotech 512, expanded to 64kb RAM! It even had a h/w ZX Spectrum 48k emulator!! I guess I got it back in '86/87.. In May 88 I got my first C64 with a tape drive, and in '90 I got me an 1541-II! Later I've got three A500's, one A1200, a PC and something called a ORIC-1, a 6502 based micro!
How did you get to know the scene? Who was your first contact (person you knew) on the scene?
My friend Skate Or Die was swapping with some other Norwegians, and I got some addys from some mags... Sent out a bunch of letters and got some replies... Don't remember my first contact though...
Describe your scene career, including all groups you have been a member of! Keep chronological order please!
My first group was Tommyknockers (TKS) wich I joined as a coder/swapper in '90 I think... Then TKS fusioned with another Norwegian group called Powerslaves (PWS) and formed Axend (AED). This was right before the Bergen Party in '90. Then in '91 AED died, and I started my very own group, called Digital Designs, and was joined by Father Dagon and Shark, and later on some more... We released some demos, but was never famous! Then in '95, after a long period of doing nothing, Shark had left us for Shape/Blues Muz, and we joined forces with a Swedish group called Delta, and formed .... hell I can't remember the groupname... anyway, after a few months we all joined Triad, which I left today (06.10.97).
Which scene do/did you consider best and why? If you have been only on the C64, then give us the reason(s)!
I was only on the c64 coz I can't code on Amiga!
What do you think you gained by being a member of the scene?
I've had alot of fun, got to know lots of people!
What do you consider lost, wasted or meaningless during the years you have spent on the scene?
Well, I have used some hours coding/swapping wich some people might call wasted, but it was my hobby!
What is/are/was/were your main interest(s)/function(s)?
Coding and swapping
What made you start doing graphics/composing/swapping/coding/modem trading organising or whatever you did?
I started with ripping music from games and drwaing really bad 4-color logos in Logo-maker or something, and just evolved from there....
What are/were your greatest successes/fiascos?
None in particular!
Was there any special connection between you/your group and some other people/groups on the scene (co-operation, war, friendship etc.)? If so, what made it start and stop?
Have you attended parties? Tell us about your favourite conferences? You can even mention some fiascos.
I've been at The Bergen Party (1990), The Alingsas Easter Party in 1992, The Gathering 95, The Party 5, The Gathering 96 and The Gathering 97. Most fun was Alingsas I think, we released our first demo as Digital Designs there.... Had an internal meeting a week before the party, slept 22 hours in 9 days...
Is/was there any special feeling in your crew, something more than just being in a group?
When in Digital Designs, we were a small group of friends, even if we lived far apart... Crew meetings were cool!
If you are not a C64 scener anymore, when and why did you leave the scene?
I left because of lost interest/activity...
What were your favourite groups/artists/coders/productions? Why do/did you like their work/these programs?
Favorite groups must be Ikari, Blackmail, Fairlight, Triad, Hotline, Genesis Project (in the old days!), coders and artists are far too many to mention.
What is your profession? What do you do for a living? Does it have to do anything with computers? Is there anything you do in real-life that is similar to what you have been doing on the scene?
I'm a computer technician, installing networks and such..
